Just before 5pm on Sunday, March 8, 2009 the Mount Arlington Fire Department was dispatched to Route 80 just before exit 31 for a multi-vehicle accident with entrapment. Within minutes, Roxbury Fire and EMS were also dispatched to roll all five rigs to the scene. Five people were injured in a three-car MCI that closed down Route 80 Eastbound and Westbound while rescuers prepared the highway for multiple medevac helicopters to land near the accident scene. A vehicle heading westbound on Route 80 apparently crossed the center median and collided head on with another vehicle in the eastbound lane. NJ State Police Medevac helicopter (NorthStar) arrived first on the scene. Moments later, Atlantic One helicopter also arrived to assist. Firefighters continued to extricate a victim while Pennsylvania's PenStar medevac helicopter was on the approach to the scene. Picatinny Aresnal's Hazardous Materials Unit (Truck 13) was called to the scene for a diesel fuel leak.
